2026 Royal Mint Tudor Beasts Royal Dragon 1oz Gold Coin
The 2026 Royal Tudor Beasts Royal Dragon 1oz Gold Coin continues The Royal Mint’s celebrated bullion series honouring the powerful heraldic creatures of the Tudor dynasty.
As the ninth release in the acclaimed Royal Tudor Beasts Collection, this striking coin pays tribute to the legendary Royal Dragon – a symbol synonymous with Wales for more than 500 years and deeply connected to the Tudor bloodline.
A symbol of Tudor power and Welsh heritage
Following his victory at the Battle of Bosworth Field, Henry VII adopted the Royal Dragon as a representation of the Tudor dynasty’s Welsh ancestry. The beast later became part of the magnificent heraldic statues commissioned for the Moat Bridge at Hampton Court Palace to celebrate the marriage of Henry VIII and Jane Seymour.
Today, the Royal Dragon remains one of the most recognisable emblems of royal authority, strength and legitimacy.
Intricate design by David Lawrence
The reverse of the coin features a detailed interpretation of the Royal Dragon statue by renowned sculptor and illustrator David Lawrence. Fierce and imposing, the dragon stands proudly clutching a shield bearing the Beaufort Portcullis badge – a historic symbol closely associated with Tudor rule.
The design is further enhanced by an innovative surface animation security feature, adding visual depth while helping to protect against counterfeiting.
Struck in 999.9 fine gold
Crafted from 1oz of 999.9 fine gold to The Royal Mint’s bullion standard, this coin combines investment-grade precious metal with exceptional craftsmanship and historical significance.
The obverse features the official coinage portrait of King Charles III, designed by acclaimed artist Martin Jennings.
Created in collaboration with the experts at Historic Royal Palaces, the collection brings Tudor history vividly to life for modern investors and collectors alike.
