2023 Royal Arms Gold Coin
This is a brand new coin, struck in 999.9 fineness 24 carat gold and is minted by The Royal Mint. The coins will come in a Royal Mint tube if bought in quantities of ten. Smaller orders will come loose, but the Britannia coin capsules can be ordered to protect them. Limited mintage of 5,000 pieces only
This is the 5th year celebrating one of the UK’s most iconic and identifiable emblems, The Royal Arms, with a bullion coin designed by heraldic artist Timothy Noad.
Like the 1oz Britannia gold coin, the Gold Royal Arms coin boasts a £100 face value, qualifying it as Capital Gains Tax free. For this reason and it’s relative scarcity, we expect this gold coin to be a very popular investment choice.
The Royal Arms are the official coat of arms for the British Monarch.
Coin Design
This is the first Royal Arms coin to feature King Charles III on its obverse, as depicted by designer Martin Jennings.
Writing around the obverse border is identical to that if the 1oz Gold Britannia, confirming the face value and featured monarch. Only the edging varies between the two coins.
The reverse of the coin provides the character and identity of this brand new coin. It displays a wonderfully detailed design of The Royal Coat of Arms, consisting of a central shield, flanked by the Lion of England and Unicorn of Scotland – two heraldic figures also featured in the popular Queens Beasts range of coins. The shield is split into equal quarters, with the first and fourth segments containing the three passant guardant lions of England, the second featuring the lion and double tressure flory-counterflory of Scotland and finally the Irish harp in the third. Below the shield are a depiction of the Irish Shamrock, Scottish thistle, Welsh leek and English rose. The French ‘DIEU ET MONDROIT’ adorns a banner below the two main figures, translating to the motto ‘God and my Right’.
At the top of the coin, the Year of issue is displayed, while text at the bottom confirms the weight, metal and purity.
Our Expert Opinion
We always get excited with any new Royal Mint coin release. We particularly like the Gold Royal Arms due to its stunning design and combination of investment appeal and collectability. This enduring emblem has signified royalty and strength for centuries and it’s limited mintage numbers encourages buyers to act quickly.
Its modest premium, quantity discounts and tax efficiency mean we expect the gold investment community to snap this coin up in large quantities to further diversify their portfolios of Gold Sovereigns and Britannias.
