Washington Eagle 0.5oz Silver Coin
The Washington Eagle 0.5oz Silver Coin is a 2026 silver release celebrating George Washington, the first President of the United States and one of the central figures in the country’s struggle for independence.
Released in the year marking the 250th anniversary of American Independence, the Washington Eagle forms part of a collection dedicated to the individuals, symbols and ideals that shaped the United States.
Containing 0.5 troy ounces of .999 fine silver, the coin carries a $1 denomination and is officially issued under the authority of Ascension Island.
The Story of the Washington Eagle
George Washington’s importance to the American story extends far beyond his position as the country’s first president.
As Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War, Washington led American forces in the struggle for independence. After the war, he played an important role in the formation of the new republic before becoming its first president in 1789.
The Washington Eagle celebrates this legacy by bringing together Washington and the American eagle – two images closely associated with the foundation and identity of the United States.
George Washington and 250 Years of American Independence
The year 2026 marks 250 years since the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
Among the presidents featured within the collection, Washington has an especially direct connection to that anniversary.
His leadership during the Revolution helped turn the declaration of independence into political reality, while his later presidency helped establish the institutions of the new nation.
The Washington Eagle therefore represents the earliest chapter of the presidential story explored by the collection.
