2019 1oz Gold Lunar Pig Coin

The Gold Lunar Pig coin is the sixth in the Royal Mint’s Shengxiao Lunar series of coins, designed by Wuon-Gean Ho. These are pre-owned 1oz bullion coins, minted by world renowned Royal Mint. Each coin is produced to a purity of 999.9 fine gold and contains exactly 1 troy ounce of gold. Orders in multiples of ten will be supplied in Royal Mint tubes. If you would like to protect your coins further, these coin capsules fit perfectly.

these coins have a strict limited mintage of only 8,888 gold coins. They’re also available in silver bullion. The main image on the rear of the coin features and mother pig nursing her five piglets in a nocturnal rural scene. ‘Year of the pig 2019’ is emblazoned around the top of the image, with confirmation of the metal weight and purity below. The front of the coin depicts the current fifth portrait of Queens Elizabeth, set on an attractive guilloche background pattern. The face value of £100 is confirmed on the obverse of the coin.

2019 Year of the Pig

The Lunar Pig may be the 6th in the Royal Mint series, but the year of the pig represents the twelfth, and final animal of the Chinese zodiac, of which the series is based. Each animal represents a certain set of traits which people born under that zodiac animal are said to possess. Those born in the following years fall under the year of the pig; 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007, 2019.

Typical Year of Pig characteristics include being industrious, generous and kind.

Each Chinese zodiac year is also associated with an element and 2018 is Earth. This makes 2018 an Earth Dog Year.

The other elements are metal, wood, water and fire.

Our expert opinion

With a limited issue size, creative design, top quality production and face value, the Lunar Pigs hold strong appeal for gold collectors and investors alike. As part of a small production run twelve part collection, the Lunar Pig qualifies as a top choice gold collectors coin. The combination of a Chinese theme and China’s established fascination with British goods, will guarantee strong demand from this region. The Royal Mint have clearly recognised the potential overseas demand for their gold and silver products, which explains why this series is minted in 999,9 fineness – a purity demanded by the particular Asian market.

The gold Lunar Pig’s face value also means the coin qualifies as Capital gains Tax free, a huge appeal for those seeking tax free gold investment. With high demand for previous coins in the series, liquidity when selling is high and premiums are likely to rise significantly as supply runs out.
