The 2026 Britannia and Liberty 1oz Gold Coin brings together two of the world’s most recognisable national symbols in a striking limited-mintage bullion coin from The Royal Mint.

Struck from one troy ounce of 999.9 fine, 24-carat gold, the coin features Britannia and Liberty side by side – representing the historic relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States.

With a strictly limited mintage of just 5,000 gold bullion coins worldwide, the 2026 edition combines the intrinsic value of one ounce of pure gold with additional scarcity and collectable appeal.

A unique collaboration between two world-famous mints

The Britannia and Liberty design originated from a landmark collaboration between The Royal Mint and the United States Mint.

Gordon Summers, Chief Engraver at The Royal Mint, and Joseph Menna, Chief Engraver at the United States Mint, worked together to create a single design uniting the two national figures.

Inspired by traditional court cards, Britannia and Liberty are given equal prominence. Britannia represents fortitude and Britain’s long numismatic heritage, while Liberty embodies the American ideal of freedom.

The collaboration first appeared in 2024, with the two figures returning for this special 2026-dated bullion release.

Why buy the 2026 Britannia and Liberty Gold Coin?

Limited to only 5,000 coins
The restricted worldwide mintage makes this a considerably scarcer bullion issue than a standard Gold Britannia, potentially appealing to investors who also value collectability.

One ounce of pure gold
Each coin contains one troy ounce – 31.103g – of 999.9 fine gold. This makes its underlying precious-metal value straightforward to track against the gold price and places it among the most popular formats for investors buying one-ounce gold coins.

VAT free
As investment-grade gold, the 2026 Britannia and Liberty is exempt from VAT.

Capital Gains Tax free
As UK legal tender, the coin is exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK investors, making it particularly attractive for those building larger physical gold holdings.

Royal Mint craftsmanship
The coin is struck to The Royal Mint’s bullion standard and supplied individually in a protective coin capsule.

The design

The reverse places Britannia and Liberty together in profile, drawing inspiration from the balanced composition of traditional playing cards. Each retains the attributes associated with her national identity – Liberty with her torch and stars, and Britannia with her trident and Corinthian helmet.

The obverse features the official coinage portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings, alongside the coin’s £100 denomination.

The result is an unusual meeting of British and American numismatic traditions on a UK legal-tender gold coin.

For investors who want more than a conventional one-ounce bullion coin, the 2026 Britannia and Liberty offers an appealing combination of pure gold, UK tax advantages and limited availability.

With only 5,000 gold bullion coins available worldwide, supply is significantly more restricted than for a standard Gold Britannia.
