2002 Elizabeth Golden Jubilee Half Sovereign Gold Coin
This Gold Half Sovereign is a pre-owned coin issued by The Royal Mint to celebrate the 2002 Golden Jubilee. The obverse of the coin features the 4th portrait of Elizabeth II by master engraver Ian Rank-Broadley, depicting a mature queen adorning the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara and the Queen Mary button stud pearl earrings.
The rarely used shield-back design features on the reverse of the coin, replacing the far more common image of St George Slaying the Dragon. This design is the first shield to feature on the Sovereign reverse since Victorian Sovereigns. For this reason, these coins command a collectable premium due to their high levels of desirability and relative rarity.
