1oz American Silver Eagle Coin

The 1oz American Silver Eagle Coin was first issued by the United States Mint on November 24th,1986. This is a brand new 1oz silver coin. Coins will be shipped in a sachet for modest orders, in tubes of 20, or in boxes of 500

It is the best known and official silver bullion coin of the US.

Each coin contains one troy ounce of fine silver and has a face value of $1.

The Walking Liberty design by Adolph Weinman is on the obverse of the coin and the iconic American eagle behind a shield is on the reverse.

Also on the reverse are 13 stars which represent the 13 colonies.

Coin History and Mintage

The Walking Liberty on the obverse of this coin was first used between 1916 and 1947 on the half dollar coin.

The coin has been minted at 3 different mints in the United States at varying times. These three mints are Philadelphia, San Francisco and West Point. The coins can be differentiated by the mintmark on each coin.

A coin minted at San Francisco will bear an “S” mintmark, Philadelphia a “P” mintmark and West Point a “W” mintmark.

Our Expert Opinion

One of the most liquid and globally renowned foreign silver coins, the Silver Eagle is a popular choice amongst investors. Mass production and no frills, lends itself to a great value coin with low premiums. This appeals to those seeking value for money, while maintaining liquidity and divisibility.

If you’re seeking a coin with a little more rarity of collectors value, than you may want to consider some of the Royal Mint’s popular Lunar or Queen’s Beasts limited issue series. They have the added advantage of being tax efficient as UK legal tender coins, but you will pay a premium for the privilege of owning a rarer coin.

Buying silver Britannias can strike a good balance between the two. This offers low prices but is also tax free, and designs are updated frequently, lending coins to be a little more collectible too.
